the case of the missing wise man

Yesterday Gus took one of the Playmobile wise men outside.
This is a major no-no.

There is a large drain in our backyard where three yards intersect.
Somehow the wise man ended up floating in the drain
about three feet down in some really gross water.

Lucy and Harry were dismayed.
Gus was noncommittal.
He could easily let that thing go.

The children kept up a vigil at the drain,
giving intermittent reports on the wise man.
"He is sinking grammy,
only his head is above the water."

"Okay kiddos....
go tell granddaddy about our dilemma
and let him think about it for a while.
He will come up with a rescue plan."

Granddaddy can fix anything.

Sure enough, this afternoon,
Granddaddy duct taped a slotted spoon
to a broom handle and attempted a rescue.
That plan didn't work,
it only caused the wise man to sink further into the muck.

The only solution was to remove the drain cover,
but that thing weighed a ton.
Granddaddy goes to the garage,
comes back with a long piece of metal,
and lifts the cover.
Then he was able to fish the wise man out with the broom-spoon.
There was much rejoicing!!!

Alls well that ends well.
Thank the Lord for granddaddy!
Look at that culprit Gus...
He has a very smug look on his face.
Oh the excitement he caused!
