fall bed

This is our fall bed...
drenched in that glorious, autumn afternoon sun.
Bubba says that it glows.
I agree with him!

Just a quick update this afternoon:
I saw my surgeon early this morning,
You know,
the one who sticks the lighted scope up my nose and down into my throat.
He couldn't find any cancer in there.
The only way I get through this ordeal is to hopefully hear good news after he pulls it out.
I did!
The cancer has not come back.

Thanking God just now for His healing!!
Thanking Him also for good doctors and nurses.
For their extra care and compassion.
One example is the sweet nurse who held my hand during the procedure.
I hung on for dear life.
Also thanking Him for all of the prayers of my friends and loved ones,
I am truly living "The Abundant Life" that Jesus promised in His word.
He has provided everything I need and then some.
Deeply Grateful!

celebrating gus

We finally got to celebrate Gus yesterday.
He turned eight.
He chose my famous dessert,
Chocolate Surprise.
Can't believe he is already eight years old.

This is a picture of Gus when he was still a tiny.

Gus yesterday with his presents.

Playing Grammy's Memory Game.
Lucy won this time.

Gus got this Captain America costume.
Captain America is Grammy's favorite Super Hero.

Gus was our fifth grandchild.
He came to us from Ethiopia before he turned one.
Now he is doing second grade.
He is all boy but he still likes the occasional cuddle.
We all love him very much....
Cannot imagine life without this sweet, charming kid.

a fallen leaf

Our leaves are just now starting to fall in earnest.
Summer took a long time leaving this year.
I like this thought...
"A fallen leaf is nothing more than a summer's wave goodbye."
When the leaves finally fall
they are summer waving goodbye to us.
Sweet!

Bye, bye summertime.
Can't wait to see you again.

just vote!

I early voted today.
Took me about 30 minutes.
I read my book while I waited in line.
I've done what I can do as a citizen of this great country.

"Believers need to understand that
what happens in America politically and socially
has nothing to do with the progress and the power of the
Kingdom of God."
John MacArthur

How do we pray?
Simply...
Oh God, may Your perfect will be done.

disney trip

Thanks to these five people I was able to do Disney again.
Two days back to back.
Three different parks.
My husband,
My daughter,
My son in law.
My two fine, handsome grandboys.
Last January when my cancer journey began I wondered,
"Will I ever be able to go to Disney again?"
It happened this past week.
I couldn't be more grateful.

Here we are with Kylo Ren from Stars Wars.
He was being mean to us.
We knew it was all an act.

You never get too old for Disney,
Here we are on the Buzz Lightyear shooting gallery ride.
I got my highest score yet but,
Bubba still beat me.

It was still August hot in Orlando.
We got to the parks early,
left after lunch for rest and relaxation,
then went back to enjoy the coolness of the evening.
We had a beautiful moon hanging over our heads and soft breezes blowing.
It was magical!

I didn't take my camera (first time ever).
Amanda took these pictures for me.
I managed my eating issues well!

The only lasting effects from our trip was fatigue.
I will take a few days to rest up and be ready for our next adventure.

God is so good!
I am so thankful for the kindness He shows through my family.
Having fun and laughing together is such a big part of getting well.

(The editor of my blog would not let me place my first two writings in my usual format.)
I don't know why.

happy days

Back to the place of "Once upon a time."

Cinderella and Star Wars.
Mickey and Minnie.
Perter Pan and Winnie the Pooh.
Dole Whip.
Soaring.
Family Time.
Fun.
Seeing it through the eyes of our grandchildren.
Happily Ever After.
Magic.

We ❤️ Disney.

I hope I'm up for this!
Hope they have soup and milkshakes.
 Siestas in the afternoon.

fall came, finally

Hurricane Michael swept in and swept out this past week.
When he departed he took all of the humidity with him.
We woke this morning to
crystal clear skies,
cool temps,
and fresh, clean air.
The actual first day of Fall has arrived.
What joy!
I think it's been since May that we have had a day without the sweltering heat.
Thankful for the change of seasons.

God has gifted us with His word.
He has compiled His wisdom in a book of words.
The Bible tells us all we need to know about Him.
No matter how many times you read it,
the message is fresh and new.
It cuts to the heart.
It saves the soul.
It teaches and admonishes us.
It tells the story of Jesus.
If you ask for wisdom and understanding,
God will give it to you through His written word.
His word is how our great and awesome God communicates with His people.

Reading this morning a bit about God and the physical world.

"Whatever the Lord pleases He does,
In heaven and in earth,
In the sea and in all deep places.
He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain;
He brings the wind out of His treasuries."
Psalm 135 6&7

Seriously,
"He brings the wind out of His treasuries."
How amazing is that.
God controls what happens in this world we live in.

"and he blew and he blew"

Michael was a sneaky storm.
Pretending to be "not much of anything" as he meandered in the lower Gulf of Mexico,
he grew to be quite the unexpected monster.
The closer he got to land, the more ferocious he became.
Not to be slowed down or tamed,
he plowed right into the Florida panhandle with all of the force of  a bomb
causing widespread destruction and mayhem.
Charging through central Georgia as a full on hurricane,
Michael continued to spread his fury far and wide well into the night.

I heard the screaming winds as I tried to sleep,
wondering what our world would look like at first light.
We got off easy this time.
Michael skirted by with blustery winds and very little rain.
Other places were devastated, leveled, torn to shreds.

O God have mercy on those people who have lost everything.
Be with the families of those who lost loved ones.
Be with those who will clean up, restore, and help to rebuild.

"He scatters His bright clouds
 and they swirl about,
being turned by His guidance,
that they may do whatever He commands them
on the face of the whole earth."
Job 37:11~14

Hope Bible Church

Some of our older kids making signs for our service last Sunday.
There's something for everyone to do.

Before worship we had a lovely coffee fellowship.
A time to mix and mingle...
to get to know each other.
One of our members made these cinnamon rolls and scones for us to enjoy.
So delicious!

Young and old gathered together.

The view from the window in the old cottage.

David proclaiming God's word.
We are studying through the book of II Corinthians.

A huge part of our worship is singing praise to our God.

Granddaddy and Gus singing together.

So very thankful for this church and these people.
The church is not a building.
The church is the people...
gathered together to worship and praise our God.

Come next Sunday.
Meeting at Wesley Gardens
Savannah, Georgia
10:00
You will be welcomed!

fall decorating

I decorate for the seasons in our home.
Everything is taking on the beautiful hues of Fall.
I have a collection of miniature houses.
Harry is mesmerized by them.
This year I decided to give him full reign to set them up.
Have at it Buddy.
Let your creative juices flow.

Confession...
I am a bit of a control freak when it comes to decorating.
Decorating is one of my passions.
I never wanted my children to hang one ornament on the Christmas Tree.
I needed the tree to be perfect...
my kind of perfect.

When you get to be a Grammy all of that changes.
There's just something about grandchildren.
I knew that setting up our fall scene would thrill a couple of little boys.
(Archie helped Harry)
They worked really hard and created a wonderful scene.
I praised and thanked them profusely.

Every bone in my body wants to go to the hutch and
"change a few things."
I want it to be perfect all the way down to the silk fall leaves...
my kind of perfect.
But I will not touch it.
I love it just the way they finished it.
I feel great about my decision to leave it alone.
I am learning to relinquish control.

I study the scene a lot.
I see it through their eyes and it makes me very happy.

😉

I made my aunt Clyde's pecan pie for dessert at our feast this weekend.
The recipe is over seventy years old.
Always delicious!

Boys playing in the beach room.
I love them so much.
They enrich our lives and make us laugh out loud.

*I am thankful today that God is in control and not me.

fall where are you?

Today is the third of October.
I haven't seen too many fall leaves yet.
The grass is still green and growing.
The forecast for tomorrow is 90 degrees.
The air is humid.
The conditioned air is still roaring through the vents.
We don't need a blanket in the night.
The flowers still need watering every day.
I'm certainly not complaining...
would rather it be warm than cold.

Fall, where are you hiding?
When are you going to make yourself known?
The cooler temps will come when we least expect.
One morning soon we will wish we had a blanket on the bed.
The grass will turn brown.
The trees will start shedding.
It will be dark at 6:00 pm.
There will be a fire in the fireplace,
candles all around the house,
a pot of chili on the stove.

O God, Your ways are perfect.
You are in control of all things, even the weather.

I praise you this day because
"There is an appointed time for everything."
Ecclesiastes 3:1
