count your blessings

Cockspur Lighthouse
Tybee Island, Georgia
@theaudiodabbler

If you travel to Tybee Island from Savannah,
you will see this gorgeous lighthouse to your left as you cross over the Lazaretto Bridge.
I love this landmark.
It always catches my eye.
It sits on a tiny spit of land in the river just off from Fort Pulaski.
When the tide is high the land is covered completely and the waves lap up on the sides of the structure.
One cannot visit.
It would crumble with human traffic.
It's beauty is to be beholden only with one's eyes.

It's very hot in Savannah.
Our grass is brown and unsightly.
I got all of those flowers that I bought planted in a timely fashion...
now we are struggling to keep them watered to give them a fair chance at surviving.

Last evening Bubba and I drove down to the island to get some fried shrimp.
We spotted a dark cloud and heard some thunder.
Nothing materialized though.
We came home to do the water dance one more time.
When it sizzles like this I long for rain.
When the sun is unrelenting,
bearing down on the earth like a laser,
I long for a cloudy day,
a respite from the oppressive heat.
Summer came with a vengeance this year...
way too hot,
much to soon.
No complaining though.
What about all of those storms and tornadoes...
all of the flooding rain.
The people who died,
those who lost their homes.

Grumbling and complaining is a worthless activity.
It only makes you and the people who have to be around you miserable.
So...put on a happy face, find ways to stay cool, and count your blessings.
God is so good All the time!

more lawn games...

These two...

Gus & Walter.
Brothers from around the world.
They share a bedroom, their toys, their life.
These two little guys make our life complete.
Wouldn't be the same without them.
They are blessings from God.
I love them!

Jake and Lucy playing "Super Bad" badmitten.
They are our freshly minted teenagers.
Still like to play Grammy's games though.

Gus playing Beach Ball Bop.

The birthday boy kept it going for a long time.

Last but not least,
Walt got the first whack at his Lightening McQueen pinata. When they finally opened it up, dollar bills came raining down to the ground. The kids went wild with excitement.

Ya'll, I love being a Grammy.
I am so thankful for these gifts of love.

fun & games in our backyard

Before the games began.
Listening to Amanda give directions on "lawn darts."
Believe me, there was lots of competition behind those stoic faces.

What is this?
David got so excited that he demanded to go first.
No one seems to be paying much attention.
He did go on to win this game!

Eli finally gets a turn.
Everyone is aiming at two rather small circles 25 feet away.
Very few competitor's tosses actually landed inside the circles.
But it was so much fun trying.

Amanda won for having the best form.
Such concentration!!
Notice she is on her toes.
Notice that the lawn dart is on it's way.
Sadly she overshot the circles and didn't score on this toss.

Erika is smooth and easy with her throw.
Such a fun game.

Grammy let one fly.
I hit the first circle on my first toss.
Everyone cheered.
I think our neighbors thought we had gone nuts.

Something or someone cracked Erika and Amanda up.
I can only guess who.

David won with 55 pts.
Gram came in second with 35 pts.
Amanda & Erika tied with 30 pts. each

All of the adults decided not to take a prize.
Jake got 30 pts. and took home $5.00.

We had so much fun!!
More pics next blog.

i almost waited too long

Today.
Today I finally went to buy my flowers...
The ones to add those magic pops of color to our yard.
I waited, sadly, until the absolute hottest day of the year.
By the time I
walked around the nursery choosing the ones I wanted,
loaded them in my car,
drove home,
unloaded them to the backyard,
I was hotter than a body needs to be.
I had to turn the air conditioner down really low,
drink a massive amount of water,
and lay out under the fan with very little in the way of clothes on my body.😓
It took me over an hour to cool down.
The weekend will be spent planting the beauties in the picture above.
I hope they survive!

I have to brag a bit on our Lucy girl.
Grammys do that you know.
Today was the last day of the 2018 - 2019 school year.
The outstanding students were honored this morning in an assembly.
All children third grade and up at Veritas Academy take Latin.
Lucy earned a perfect score on her Introduction to Latin Exam.
She was one of only 400 students in the world to do so.
She received the award pictured above.
She didn't know beforehand that she was going to get it.
So, so proud of all her hard work!!

I have planting to do.
Will wait until it cools down a bit.
Love, love, love playing in the dirt!

happy birthday jake & grandaddy

Another birthday celebration...
Jake turned 14.
Granddaddy turned 75.
Amanda came to town to celebrate and...
a great time was had by all!
If Jake had waited one more day, he would have been born on Bubba's big day.
That's okay though.
We had a great big birthday bash for both of them.

Jake is our oldest grandson.
He came first to join our family.
It has only grown from there.
I feel like I am throwing a birthday party every other weekend...
Something I love to do.

Jake is witty and smart.
He has just finished seventh grade.
This year he drew the world from memory and labeled every country.
He loves science and history.
In just two years he will be driving.😟
He loves Disney.
He still wants to be Spiderman.
He is very talented in making stop motion videos.
He is tall and handsome.
He loves his cousins.
His Grammy cannot believe how amazing he is. 😉

We had Bar B Que from Jim & Nick's for dinner.
Amanda made her famous baked beans and I made potato salad.
For dessert we had brownies and ice cream.
After dinner there were yard games and a pinata which everyone enjoyed.
The party was a huge success.
I will share more of the game pictures on my next blog.

Happy Birthday to Jake & Granddaddy!
They are both God's blessings to us for which we are thankful.
Always enjoy the life He has given
and be grateful for every day!

beautiful ponte vedra beach

I can still see it when I shut my eyes...
that beautiful beach spread out before me.
The waves so close I could almost feel the spray.
The sun coming up on the horizon.
Turquoise water sparkling like diamonds.
Windows and doors open to the gentle breeze and the pounding surf.
It was paradise.
It is a memory I will never forget.
One of the most gorgeous places I have ever been.

Bubba reading on the balcony.
See how close the water is?
Just right there.

In our room there was a window seat.
I spent a lot of time there with the windows open.
Perfect reading spot!

Sunrise on the first morning.
Picture taken from our balcony.

Dune flowers.

A passing sea bird.

Bubba welcoming me home from my evening beach walk.
I love this man!

Our room had a fireplace.
Not that we needed it, but such a nice touch.
Want to go back and get this same room in the winter.

The whole time we were at the beach there was a cool breeze blowing in from the ocean.
The yellow flag meant "Use Caution."
We did.
The beach was so amazing and clean.

This web of vines has a purpose.
They keep the dunes from washing away.

Second day sunrise.
They were all different.
Painted new each morning by the hand of our God.

This beautiful shell was left on our bed on our last night.
Extra touches made everything so special.

These bird shots are some of my favorites.

The side door in our room led out to this beautiful terrace.
From here we were just steps away from the beach.

Thank you Lord for this awesome getaway.
Came home refreshed with oh so many memories stored away.
Drenched in sunshine.
Lulled by the sound of the waves.
Entranced by the smell of the ocean.
These are the best of times.
💙💙💙

happy mother's day

God's amazing grace made me a mom.
He chose to gift me with two beautiful children.
Being a mom was always the desire of my heart and
He blessed me with David & Amanda.

Bubba gave me red roses and the lovely top I am wearing for Mother's Day.
When I became a mom he became a daddy.
Together we committed to raise our family to the best of our ability in the
"nurture and admonition of the Lord."
It wasn't always easy.
We didn't by any means do it perfectly.
But, He took our feeble efforts and made our children into people He could use for His purposes.
God trusted them to us,
placed them under our care for a short while to be taught His ways...
to love Him with all of their hearts,
to be equipped to go out and live their own lives in His service.

Without the constant grace and mercy of the Lord, our efforts would have been in vain.

Being a mom, being parents, being a dad is God's highest calling for humans.
How very humbling is the process.
How amazing is the road of parenthood.
Thank you God for this awesome and sobering opportunity.

And then you begin to see the fruit of your labors.
You watch them grow.
You pray for their health and safety.
You lead and guide.
You weep and lament your mistakes.
You watch them make mistakes.
You praise God when they make good choices and you pray, pray, pray for them.
You watch them become young men and young women.
You meet the spouses for whom you have prayed day in and day out.
You see God's intended purpose for their joining together as one.
You see the children that God entrusts to your children.
You watch them grow and develop and come to know the Lord.
It is indeed the circle of life being played out before your very eyes.

We celebrated yesterday evening at Papa's Restaurant.
Lucy came in the door carrying that big, beautiful planter
filled with flowers that you see in the picture above..
"We love you Grammy!"
That says it all.

❤️

Thank you God for the opportunity to be a Mom!!!

"walking in newness of life"

Christians get baptized,
completely immersed into water,
as an outward testimony of what Christ has done in their heart.
It is a time of public confession
to reveal to others
that we believe that Jesus died for our sins once for all,
that on the third day He rose again,
that He ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of God the Father,
that He is one day coming again back to this earth just as He left to gather His beloved
into an eternal relationship with God.

Baptism is an outward affirmation
of an inward change
that the Spirit of God works in a heart.

Last Sunday nine souls stood before the church to confess what God had done in their hearts.
Bubba and I were honored and humbled
to witness four of our grandchildren come forward
to be baptized by our son David.
Words cannot convey the joy of that day.

Gus

Archie

Harry

Lucy

"Or do you not know
that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus
have been baptized into His death?
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death,
in order that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father,
so we too might walk in newness of life."
 Romans 6: 3~4

happy birthday walter #4

Walter really likes Lightening McQueen and all of the cars from the Disney Pixar Cars movies.
He loved his race car birthday cake.

Grammy planned all outdoor games for Walt's party.
Right before time to start,
the thunderstorms came.
Thankfully,
after dinner,
the weather cleared up long enough for us to get our games in.
Gus is playing "Super Bad" badmitten."

Walter is trying his hand using the oversized  shuttlecock.

Archie is playing "Beach Ball Bop."
aka (how long can you keep the ball in the air without letting it touch the ground.)
Walter is just having a fabulous time.

Gus is in the air for an action shot.

Harry is playing "Race Car Mania."
He won this game by exerting some precision eye work.

Grammy is watching Archie launch his race car from the starting line.
Such suspense!

Our sweet Lu watching all of the action.
She had her piano recital earlier this same morning.

Here is the best I could do shot of Lu at the piano.
She played beautifully and this Grammy was, of course, enthralled.

Here is Walt with his gifts.
He enjoyed opening every one of them
His favorite was Max...
an eighteen wheeler transport truck that holds fifteen mini cars and trucks.
It is so amazing to see how this little guy has adapted to his new life in the
United States of America.

Walter with his family.
God is so good.
He puts children with families who love them.

This was long tonight.
Tomorrow I will share what happened this afternoon.
The oldest four of these precious souls were baptized.
I cried.
My heart couldn't hold it in.
Blessing upon blessing.
Thank You Lord for Your gift of salvation through Your Son Jesus Christ.

(Erika took all of the outdoor shots.)
