falling off some driftwood

The above is an example of kids falling off a log of driftwood while trying to pose them for a photo shoot.

Okay....here goes....... some things I have to say.

My favorite song right now is I'm Yours by Jason Mraz....it's just got a fun, funky tune.
"Scrooch on over closer dear and I will nibble your ear."
A line from the song that I love......I have always had a thing for ears:) :) :)

I love to wear my hair in a ponytail.

The shrimp creole that I made for dinner was sooooo good.

I love this shop....Two Women and a Warehouse. I could furnish my whole house with their eclectic assortment. Today I found a picture of Pompeii with a smoldering Mt. Versuvius in the background. I almost bought it. Why....because I am fascinated by what happened there.

My whole existence at this condo consists of trying to find places to put things. I do a lot of shifting of plastic boxes filled with this or that. It goes to a storage house and is brought back in to be put in another box and taken out again. Bubba loves this!

A couple of weeks ago I made the statement that there is no traffic at Tybee. I need to revamp that comment. Since it has gotten warm, the weekends here are literal gridlock. Better planning for trips to and fro town are needed on Saturday and Sunday.

I did my own pedicure today.....couldn't afford the spa one this year.

Looking at the creeks at low tide....all the water drains out and you can gaze at the muddy bottom. I LOVE THE DRIVE THROUGH THE MARSH TO THE BEACH FROM SAVANNAH!

Life is fun...most of the time.

barefoot in the park

May they grow up one day to be fine men of God, full of character and integrity.
May they be as beautiful in spirit as they are in this picture.
May God be with them all through their childhood as they learn from His word the way of truth.
May God call them to Himself at an early age and use them in His Kingdom's work.

little boys,
i love you.....grammy

this is lucy.....yes I know

Amanda just called and asked, "Mom, why are you not blogging?" I am blogging.......but I am deleting them for various and sundry reasons for which I cannot reveal on the blog at this time. I will tell you in person, though. Just remember to ask me.

I don't think anyone read my blog last night except for David because he has a blog reader, so I will repeat some of it at this time.

Five things I don't want anywhere near me:

sand gnats........the weather gets wonderful and here they come
flip flops........they hurt my toes and I am rebuffed by the flopping sound they make
lizards......they make me faint with fear
licking dogs........please, i can't bear the slobber
mere male acquaintances at funeral visitations who hug too long and too hard........please, I barely know you

Five things I learned this week:

Do not put your crocs in the dishwasher to clean them....they will shrink.
Do not assume that you have plenty of gas and never check the gas gauge.
Do not mention that you will do anything around Lucy that you are not prepared to do immediately.
Do not leave your doors open without expecting the bugs to come in and eat you alive.
Do not ever walk into the fresh market without expecting to leave a bunch of money behind.

We have a brand new wonderful swing down on the beach in front of our condo....spent some time in it this afternoon just looking at the ocean.

she got most of it cut off

Amanda had gotten what you would call a "really bad haircut" back before Christmas. It was a real "whack" job to say the least. She had dealt with it long enough. She likes to go to my salon here in Savannah and on this last trip she finally got to get an appointment.

Sadly, to get rid of the mess, it had to be cut really short........about six or seven inches came off.

The picture above is the result. I think she looks quite stunning.

Erika took this picture out on the beach in front of the condo. I am sad that Erika takes all of these beautiful pictures of everyone else and never gets any taken of herself. She would not want it though....

Sweet Lucy is sleeping in the next room. She didn't want to stop looking at her new "Winnie the Pooh" video.

We put our toes in the ocean earlier, but the water was still too cold for our liking.
Two huge horseshoe crabs washed ashore at our feet, but the waves took them right back out.

Erika....I love my new wallpaper and I found the pictures....thank you so much.

Christians.....ever wonder what is God's will for your life? Here it is in a nutshell:

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and wordly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ."
Titus 2:11-13

walking at wormsloe

Eli and I are walking down a breathtaking avenue lined with live oak trees leading to the tabby ruins of Wormsloe, the colonial estate constructed by Noble Jones, one of Georgia's first settlers.

This is probably one of the most photographed places in Savannah.

This photo is a favorite of mine.....surrounded by God's majestic beauty a grandmother and her grandson stroll leisurely down the lane. Notice the dirty foot and the pink egg clutched in his hand. Also notice the dirt on the seat of his pants.

Colonial Savannah is so interesting to me and the city is full of it's history. Sometimes I find myself alone in the squares downtown soaking it all in. I love to look at the historic houses and imagine myself back in time.

Now....a complete change of subject:

My favorite beach comforter was stolen out of the dryer at the other condo. The housekeeper had washed and dried it at the business and brought it back to put on the bed. It was still a little damp so she put it in the dryer on our floor. Within ten minutes it was gone.

I know it seems like a small thing, but it was a favorite of mine and it had sentimental value. Plus it matched the decor so well. Oh well.....just thought I would tell you.

World War II............The Winds of War...........I love it. I can talk to Bubba endlessly about the war because he is a military man. Brilliant in his knowledge of such things. I am learning alot that I didn't know before. That is my quest for the rest of my life.

Without further ado I will say good-night.....must get back to reading.

Come, Lord Jesus

A storm came through late this afternoon and left this rainbow behind. I thought it was so beautiful out there over the ocean and I wanted to share it with you.

I never want to take one minute of this life for granted. I don't want to miss one of His blessings. They come on a daily basis you know.

Our pastor, who is wonderful by the way, has been doing a series on the logic of Jesus' conversations with the ones who wanted to trick Him up with the questions they asked Him.
If you study these conversations and Jesus' responses in the New Testament, you will see what I mean.

Every response that Jesus makes is well thought out and brought to its logical conclusion by applying biblical truth to every situation.

Jesus wants us to think that way as we live out our lives here on this earth.

"Come, let us reason together, says the Lord." Isaiah 1:18a

The Bible and I together in a quiet place........thinking through biblically the big questions about life. It's all there you know.......the answers to all of the questions you long to know.

As I work through my sixty-second year, I want to continue to learn the simple, logical, practical truth of God's word and apply it to my life.

I thank God tonight for understanding....I don't take it for granted. It is a gift worth more than anything on this earth.

Look to the heavens my friends.......be expecting Jesus at any time.

"Come, Lord Jesus." Revelation 22:20

the beauty of God's creation

I took these pictures in Atlanta on our recent trip.
All of this beauty is in the yard of Bubba's bother, Robert.
One of God's grace gifts to us is that we get to enjoy the beauty and majesty of His creation.
Each flower that He created is different.
His color palette is more vibrant than anything man can come up with.
Look at the first picture....pink dogwood, blue sky, white cloud.
Every color compliments it's surroundings.
Notice the green of the lily of the valley plants with the tiny white blooms........
the coral of the azalea as it try to encirle the brown tree trunk.
On the "new earth", after Jesus comes, God's creation will at last be perfect.
I can't imagine how it will be better than it is now, but the Bible tells us it will be.
O, thank You God for giving us a glimpse of eternity and letting us enjoy a touch of it now.
Forever I will praise you and I praise you now.

elevator encounters

We are in Atlanta, Ga......wishing we were downtown at the "tea party."
We talked about going but decided against. It is cold and we did not bring warm enough clothes.

We hit the "Varsity" as soon as we rolled into town. A chile dog with mustard/onions and fries is worth driving up for. The only downer was that Bubba forgot the onions and wouldn't go back for them.

We hit the jackpot at PF Changs. Not only was our meal delicious, but we saved 15% off the bill because of their celebration of tax day. Very good timing for us I would say.

When we got back to the hotel we boarded the elevator with a man. He got off on the fourth floor. When he departed he said "night." I shot back a "night, night" to him.
When the door closed, Bubba said, "You didn't just say "night, night' to that stranger did you?"
Of course he knew I had. We had another one of those elvator laughing spells on up to the seventh floor where we live.

The wind was very cold today.....I hope it is warmer tomorow.

night, night........cathy

writing his name in the sand

Just now when I got home there was a rainbow out over the ocean. It was so beautiful it took my breath away. When I see a rainbow I always think of God's promise to Noah that He would never destroy the earth by flood again.

The rainbow, a symbol of one of God's promises to us. There are so many and God is so faithful. I praise His name tonight.

Jake really did write his name in the sand. He loves letters and he loves to spell. He got his own stick and set to work.

I am fully immersed in The Winds of War.......Love and war go so well together. I am learning many things I didn't know before. I love to read the history of things and it fascinates me to go back in time. Every night I hurry to bed to get to read some more. The sad thing is I fall to sleep so quickly.

Tomorrow I am going on a getaway. I decided to go to Atlanta because I love to go to Atlanta. You know I lived there for seventeen years and I got quite attached. I will go to my best doctor since I can't find anyone to match him here in Savannah. I will shop and eat at PF Changs.

It's just good sometimes to get a change of pace and do something different.

I go down and write on the beach sometimes..............and then the tide comes and washes it away.........c

some easter memories to share

While we were eating our Easter dinner yesterday, Harry coughed. Erika immediately said that the cough sounded like the croup that sent him to the hospital before. I then heard a tiny bit of wheezing. We didn't think much more about it and proceeded to have a wonderful time outside taking photos and having an Easter egg hunt.

By 4:00 pm, Harry was back in the hospital. He was admitted and spent the night. We all thought his ordeal was starting all over again.
Praise God they caught it in time and he was released this morning.

Please pray that he will get and stay all well this time.

The pictures above were taken two hours before he went to the hospital

A lovely breakfast at church
A wonderful message
Celebration of the Lord's Supper
A delicious Easter dinner......Honeybaked Ham...so good.
An Easter egg hunt and......
a long nap this afternoon.

Even so, "Come quickly Lord."
We long to be in your presence.

Today, thirty-nine years ago, Bubba and I got married.
A four o'clock ceremony and a reception at the church and we were off to Florida with a car full of dreams.

We made a short stop by the hospital to repair my knee which was left behind in the getaway and off we went into the April sunset. Check out last April's post to see a complete description of this escapade.

What a wonderful, exciting life we have shared.

We were to take a cruise this spring, but there are other, more pressing financial needs at this time. The good thing is, I can still plan and look forward to that great adventure.

As I spend time with our children and grandchildren I realize the blessings of God in my life. As I sit and look out at the ocean I know that my dreams are fulfilled.

Thank you Bubba for making my dreams come true.

The first friend I made after we moved to Fayetteville was at Tybee today camping with her family. Thank you Jan for the walk and the talk and your continued friendship.

In closing I would like to say.............My mind cannot fathom the depth of the love of God toward His chosen ones........ that He would send His Son to reconcile us with His shed blood back to the Father so that we can spend eternity with Him.

It is too much for me to grasp and my words of praise are too feeble.

Jesus is risen.....Hallelujah!

i have a book

I think a lot about the truth that I know.
I think how blessed I am to know and understand God's word.
I know that many people can't make that claim.
To know and understand God's word, God Himself has to open your heart and mind.
His Spirit in you is what enables God's word to make sense to you.

This week Christians all over the world are celebrating the death, burial, and resurrection of our dear Savior Jesus Christ.

Do you understand in your heart why Jesus came to die?

That was the real, the one and only reason He was born onto this earth....to die.

He came to glorify the Father by returning to Him those whose names had been written in the book of life before the earth was even created. Jesus blood paid the price for the sin nature that we were born with and helpless to remove ourselves.

By putting our faith in Jesus Christ and the work He did on the cross for us we are assured of Eternal life with Him.

There is no other way...."I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

I have a book...maybe two....that I would like to give away.

"Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came To Die" by John Piper.

If you think this would help you, e-mail your name and address and I will send it to you free of charge.

an amazing snippet

Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. This in itself was quite a feat as the Jews depised the Samaritans and would not associate with them. Jesus was a Jew.
Jesus asked her for a drink of water and then started talking to her about "living water."
"Everyone who drinks of this water (the well water) shall thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become a well of water springing up to eternal Life."
She told Him that she preceived Him to be a prophet.
Later the woman said to Him. I know that the Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes He will declare all things to us."
Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."
A simple walk to the well to draw water turned into a life changing event for this woman.
Jesus Christ spoke the truth to her heart and she believed.
Read all that Jesus said to her in John 4.

fun in johnson square

Just thought I would add a few more shots from the square on Friday.
Jesus made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on this day many years ago riding on a donkey. Much fanfare was made by the people welcoming Him with loud Hosannas and waving palm branches. No one knew that He was coming to die on a cruel cross in less than a week. No one understood that He was the Son of God, the long awaited Messiah.
When I watch the branches sway in the palm trees outside of the window I remember........
Jesus' death on the cross paid the price for the sins of the world. By putting my faith in Him, I have assurance of eternal life.
He died for me....He died for you.
Remember..................

sometimes you just have to talk

Maybe it was because his mama was off having her hair cut.....
Maybe he was hungry, or tired, or just not in the mood.....
Whatever the reason, Jake just did not want to cooperate in the picture taking yesterday.

That's okay, but along with the refusal to do what he was told came some real disobedience at a level that had to be dealt with by the adult in charge.....in this instance it was me.

We were in Johnson Square sitting on the bench dedicated to Johnny Mercer.
It was one of those gloriously beautiful days and all were in splendid spirits....the children were running around the fountains chasing the pigeons, laughing and squealing in their happiness.

To stop that fun and pose for pictures was not in this soon to be four year old's repertoire for the day.

So we had to sit and talk for a while about all of the alternatives that neither one of us wanted to happen.

We talked it through and Jake made the right choice of obedience over discipline.....but by that time we were all out of the mood.

"Let's go to the toy store for a while," said grammy.

I won't tell you what happened in the toy store. It was a funny, ridiculous fiasco that we laughed about all last evening. Needless to say, I was very glad to meet up with "the mommy" again.

I will try to put a few more pictures on in a little while....right now I have to take a nap.

do you know what it is?

What is that strange looking apparatus sitting on the table on the balcony?
It looks like a lamp, but it is not a lamp.

This outside space is useless when the weather at the beach is cold. I had seen those tall heat lamps before, but never this tabletop model.

Now it is possible for me to sit outside when the weather is less than desirable.

The heat comes on strong as soon as it is turned on and really produces a nice, warm environment.

My favorite silk quilt was just an added effect.

I am starting The Winds of War by Herman Wouk......885 pages. It's Erika's favorite book.

I have a mean ole sinus headache tonight and I never have headaches.....bummer. Soon this pollen will be gone for good.......i hope.

Join me by the heat lamp anyone?

cathy

A quote from Robert E. Lee:

In all my perplexities and distresses, the Bible has never failed to give me light and strength.
