Jesus was talking to the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well. This in itself was quite a feat as the Jews depised the Samaritans and would not associate with them. Jesus was a Jew. Jesus asked her for a drink of water and then started talking to her about "living water."
"Everyone who drinks of this water (the well water) shall thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become a well of water springing up to eternal Life."
She told Him that she preceived Him to be a prophet.
Later the woman said to Him. I know that the Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes He will declare all things to us."
Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."
A simple walk to the well to draw water turned into a life changing event for this woman.
Jesus Christ spoke the truth to her heart and she believed.
